Submit Application HereO Lord Jesus Christ our Savior, the Wisdom, Word and Power of God, true Light from the True Light - Who illumines every human being who believes in Thee, it was Thou Who didst command Thy disciples saying, "Let the children come to Me, for to such belong the Kingdom of God" and it was Thou who didst say, "Whoever receives one such child in My Name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."
We thank Thee for the gift of the children of our parish, and with Thy help we embrace the sacred responsibility for their care. Send down the grace of Thy Holy Spirit upon us to make us adequate for the continuation of this great work. Steady us in our unwavering commitment, that we might not falter when faced with adversity. Enable us to run the race with endurance both in our joy and commitment.
Protect us from the many temptations that encircle us as we negotiate the Orthodox Christian education of our children. Keep far from us, O Lord, the complaining of the ancient Hebrews in the wilderness that so sorely grieved Thee and banned them from the Promised Land. Inspire us to expect constant challenges in so great a task as the proper upbringing of our youth, and to greet these challenges with faith, devotion, creativity, and calm.
As we nourish our youth grant also that the sense of community, mutual responsibility, and love might grow between all who are co-laboring, especially between our Headmaster, faculty, staff, parents, and supporters.
We sincerely thank Thee, gracious Lord, for providing us all the resources we have needed in these first years—and do now, O Lord, open the windows of heaven in Thy great generosity and provide us in our need all the resources we need to continue and expand the St. Andrew Academy.
Give to St. Andrew Academy, O Lord, Thy blessing so that in all things needful we might abound and be wholly Thine and bring honor to Thine All-Holy Name, together with that of Thine Unoriginate Father, and Thine All-Holy, Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever, unto ages of ages. Amen.
LITURGICAL ARTS
Broadly defined, Liturgical Arts is “arts and works in service to God and the Liturgy.” At Saint Andrew Academy, we desire to connect our students to the liturgy and the Church in deeper ways, getting them involved in all aspects of what it means to truly be an active and participating member of the Church.
This course is a distinctive feature of the Academy, preserving and passing on the lived traditions of Orthodox Christian life in a tangible and meaningful way. Rather than encountering the Church only through study, students participate in its rhythm and expression, learning skills that can be carried into their own homes and future families. In this way, the beauty and wisdom of the Church are not only taught, but practiced and handed down.
Our Liturgical Arts program is designed to catch students at a young age and build up the practical skills needed to train them in all aspects of the liturgical arts; from teaching them basic sewing skills now so they can one day sew vestments, to baking and cooking with them so they can one day make Prosphora for the Liturgy and cook for the Agape Meal.
Beginning in first grade, students are introduced to the Liturgical Arts through a weekly class that forms both skill and attentiveness. They learn the foundational arts of the Christian home and Church—sewing, baking, candlemaking, and cooking—approached not simply as tasks, but as offerings made with care and purpose.
In the early years, these skills are revisited and strengthened, allowing students to grow in confidence, precision, and understanding. By third and fourth grade, instruction increases to twice weekly, and students begin to take on greater responsibility, expanding their knowledge while being introduced to complementary crafts. In fifth and sixth grades, this work deepens further as students learn to work both independently and collaboratively, undertaking more demanding projects that require patience, discipline, and attention to detail. By the completion of Grammar School, each student possesses a strong and practical foundation upon which more specialized study may be built.

Throughout these years, core areas of study include prosphora and festal foods, sewing, beeswax candlemaking, Lenten handwork, and cooking. Additional units are offered on a rotating basis, such as mosaics, woodworking, icon mounting, calligraphy and bookbinding, embroidery, prayer rope knotting, floral arranging, and traditional egg decoration.
In Upper School, the program develops into a more focused and rigorous course of study. Students are given the opportunity to pursue Liturgical Arts and Advanced Liturgical Arts, where they refine their skills through more complex projects and higher standards of execution. Instruction includes prosphora and festal preparation, machine sewing, candlemaking, cooking, and service-oriented work, alongside rotating studies in woodcarving, mosaics, and calligraphy.
Complementing this, students may also take part in Common Arts, where they are formed in practical trades historically associated with daily life. These include gardening, woodworking, leatherworking, cooking, tile setting, painting, and other essential crafts that cultivate both competence and self-sufficiency.
Additional offerings such as Cooking and Technical and Life Skills further equip students for life beyond the classroom. In Cooking, students develop a deeper understanding of nutrition, meal planning, and culinary technique. In Technical and Life Skills, they are introduced to practical knowledge such as budgeting, basic finance, first aid, car maintenance, and foundational technical skills.
