Submit Application HereO Lord Jesus Christ our Savior, the Wisdom, Word and Power of God, true Light from the True Light - Who illumines every human being who believes in Thee, it was Thou Who didst command Thy disciples saying, "Let the children come to Me, for to such belong the Kingdom of God" and it was Thou who didst say, "Whoever receives one such child in My Name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."
We thank Thee for the gift of the children of our parish, and with Thy help we embrace the sacred responsibility for their care. Send down the grace of Thy Holy Spirit upon us to make us adequate for the continuation of this great work. Steady us in our unwavering commitment, that we might not falter when faced with adversity. Enable us to run the race with endurance both in our joy and commitment.
Protect us from the many temptations that encircle us as we negotiate the Orthodox Christian education of our children. Keep far from us, O Lord, the complaining of the ancient Hebrews in the wilderness that so sorely grieved Thee and banned them from the Promised Land. Inspire us to expect constant challenges in so great a task as the proper upbringing of our youth, and to greet these challenges with faith, devotion, creativity, and calm.
As we nourish our youth grant also that the sense of community, mutual responsibility, and love might grow between all who are co-laboring, especially between our Headmaster, faculty, staff, parents, and supporters.
We sincerely thank Thee, gracious Lord, for providing us all the resources we have needed in these first years—and do now, O Lord, open the windows of heaven in Thy great generosity and provide us in our need all the resources we need to continue and expand the St. Andrew Academy.
Give to St. Andrew Academy, O Lord, Thy blessing so that in all things needful we might abound and be wholly Thine and bring honor to Thine All-Holy Name, together with that of Thine Unoriginate Father, and Thine All-Holy, Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever, unto ages of ages. Amen.
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSPOPHY
Our Academy is a nonprofit Christian educational center that exists to support homeschooling families. In accordance with the laws of the state of California, each household retains full responsibility for filing its own Private School Affidavit and, in a true sense, remains its own school. The Academy therefore partners with families, offering structure, curriculum, and a shared community of learning.
Families are given flexibility to enroll their children in a manner that best serves their needs—whether full-time, part-time, or à la carte—allowing each household to shape its schedule thoughtfully.
At the same time, the Academy is not merely a resource but a school in the full sense, providing classrooms, a daily rhythm, and a unified course of study. All who enroll participate in this common academic life, maintaining its curriculum and pace. On days at home, parents continue this work by guiding their children through the Academy’s studies and, especially in the younger years, serving as their instructors in continuity with the classroom.
Our Academy understands its partnership with families not simply as education, but as an offering made to the Holy Trinity. Beyond questions of legality or scheduling, both the ends and means of our work are guided by the Holy Orthodox Church—her canons, liturgical life, doctrines, practices, and traditions—received within the life of our mother parish, Saint Andrew Orthodox Christian Church, and enriched by the many cultures of the Orthodox world represented in our community.
An excellent education, rightly understood, is one in which teachers teach well and students learn well. We seek to cultivate an environment in which students are invited to grow—neither exasperated by undue burden nor enervated by lack of challenge. They learn to read good books well, to write beautiful thoughts with clarity and care, to think deeply and speak truthfully, to argue thoughtfully, to dialogue wisely, and to disagree with respect. Their loves are formed as much as their minds: to love what is good, true, and beautiful; to recognize and reject falsehood and disorder; to love order, fittingness, and virtue; and to abhor injustice, wickedness, and all that deforms the soul. In this way, education becomes not merely the acquisition of skills, but the formation of rightly ordered persons.

As a classical Christian academy, we aim to bequeath to our students the fullness of the inheritance entrusted to us—both sacred and secular, both Greco-Roman and Christian, both Western and Eastern. This includes the study of Greek and Latin, the reading of the Great Books, and the disciplined practice of the liberal arts: grammar, dialectic, rhetoric, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and music. Yet this inheritance is not received abstractly, but is lived within the context of the Church. A Christian education complements and deepens the life of prayer—both in the Divine Liturgy and throughout the week in corporate and private devotion, in catechism, and in the “little church” of the home. All learning is centered on the person of Jesus Christ, approached incarnationally, so that theology, Scripture, and ascetic labor are not confined to a single subject, but permeate all studies. Our aim is not merely that students learn about Christ, but that they learn to become like Him—to put on Christ in mind, heart, and life.
